New Public Art Sculpture at Kaiser Permanente

Here it is! Installed late September in the Kaiser Permanente Emergency Waiting Room in Santa Rosa, in the new building across from the parking garage on Bicentennial.  It was a VERY busy summer creating this sculpture quickly, and designed to be indestructible by hoards of children.  There is a very heavy durable steel frame creating every curve and surface of this piece, underneath the resin.  Its super-durable, yet the exterior surface is friendlier than steel - resin is softer, and with the bright colors is inviting for children to play with it.  It's really a joy to have created a piece with children in mind.
Kauila is named after the Hawaiian Sea Turtle Goddess, who is the protector of children.

New Commission Sculpture

I'm excited to announce I'm working on a new commissioned sculpture for a healthcare facility in Sonoma County.  This is my big project for the summer (move over, Burning Man) and I will post pictures when I'm further along.

At the same breath, I miss the wonderful environment the desert provides for art, and am toying with the idea of creating another piece of art for Burning Man 2011 - just for the motivation and audience it provides, grant or no grant.  I've had a lot of ideas over the years which would flourish with a raison d'etre.

No Such Luck for Nekropokos

I thought it sounded like so much fun!! But no such luck from the Burning Man HQ for funding it.  I sure hope you all have a great time out on the playa, I think I'll stay home and make art.

Nekropokos: Proposed for Burning Man 2010

I tried again for an art grant, still waiting to hear.  Meanwhile, enjoy this proposal concept for Burning Man 2010 "Metropolis" is the theme.  If I had outside funding I could do it.
